Week 1

Remember

- Make your blog and tell its URL to your tutor.

- Back up your work and post any development work on your Blog.

Things to Do

Project 1: Starting from a few precedent images, you will create 3D design using Solidworks and 3ds Max.

1. Find images or take pictures of interesting architectural/natural/artificial objects. Get hi-res ones. A set of images taken from different angles will be helpful.

Post your favourite ones on your blog. Caption images, and remember to include links.

- Use PrtScn key to capture a screen (or use Snipping Tool available at Start-Accessories-) and paste it to Photoshop to crop the image.

2. Open up Solidworks and find Tutorials under the Help Menu. Work through the following tutorials before the end of your next class (Post screen shots on your blog)

- Lesson 1 - Parts

- Revolves and Sweeps

- Lofts

- 3d Sketching (If you’re up for a challenge)

3. Start sketching from one of your images.

- Pick an image from your research and remove the background in Photoshop.

  - Help > Photoshop Help > Index

  - Search for: Magic wand tool > tolerance / Quick mask / Lasso

- Insert the picture on a plane in Solidworks and extrude a shape based on it. i.e., use the image as a template.

  - Help > Solidworks Help Topics > Index

  - Search for: Create / Create > New Sketches / New > Sketches

  - Sketch tools > Picture

  - Create sketch lines

  - Extruded Boss/base

  - Extruded Cut

4. Choose 3 words (an adjective, noun and verb) to describe the precedent images and define the direction of your project.
