Project 2

Let’s move on Project 2.

Things to Do

1. READ THE PROJECT 2 BRIEF

2. Select a model from your 81 iterations (Or you may start making a new model)

  • Your “hero” model may be appropriate.
  • Find precedents from websites or your surroundings which have formal and/or constructional methods/details/concepts which you would like to replicate when transferring your “hero” model from the virtual to the physical.
  • Ex) If a flower is created through the concentric layering of petals, you may take this concept (concentric layering) and apply it to your model.

3. Start sketching your model, different angles, elevations, realistic, gestural, and abstracted.

  • Sketch ideas.
  • Do renders in 3ds Max from different angles.
  • Use Photoshop to manipulate images.
  • Print renders + trace lines and forms from your model.
  • Overlay different drawings together in Photoshop. (hint: use the blending option > multiply)
  • Consider your precedents, apply them to the sketches of your model, re-sketch them.
  • Make sketch models of these ideas.

4. Sketch Models:  something which helps you to visualise form and details. They can be made from anything, can be quick ideas, or detailed construction.  TAKE PHOTOS of these and put them on your blog as they will break easily.

  • Continue sketching, re-developing ideas, researching and sketch modelling
  • Post all your progress on the blog.

Assignments

  • Have several concepts/ideas of how you can transform your “hero” model into a physical form
  • Have turned these ideas into sketch models + sketches
  • Posted research + development to blog

Independent Study

  • Illustrator tutorials – Importing and auto tracing .dxf sections from Solidworks into Adobe Illustrator.
  • Using 3DSMax to create renders of sections through your chosen model.
  • Open these in illustrator and perform an auto trace to generate your profiles.
  • Explore other Applications such as Pepakura Designer or SketchUp.
  • Print these out and configure – where do connections need to be? Is this the best representation of your precedent?
  • Start to create paper or card models of your design.
  • Upload a picture of your models/experiments to your blog.
